Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Patrick J. “Ricky” Manning share the announcement of his passing May 28, 2019.

Patrick, son of the late Anne and Austin Manning, spent his childhood in East Freetown, his young adult life in New Bedford and had, for the past 24 years, lived in Provincetown, MA.

In his lifetime he worked valiantly to identify the needs, secure the resources and fight for the rights of others. In the New Bedford, Fall River and Providence, RI areas he worked with and was an advocate for those impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

In 1995 Patrick moved to Provincetown. Although new to this tight knit community, he quickly became a part of its fabric and came to call Provincetown his home. He first worked as Director of Foley House, a congregate home for people living with HIV and AIDS, as well as a Social Worker for the Provincetown Counsel On Aging and then, for over 18 years, worked as a Social Worker at Cape End Manor/Seashore Point Nursing and Rehabilitation and as Director of the Provincetown Housing Authority.

Despite his many health concerns, Patrick worked tirelessly with individuals and families experiencing homelessness, illness and difficult life transitions. He was Lionhearted. Patrick lived his life fully, not only in his work, but also in his extensive travels in South America and Europe and most of all, in his meaningful, loving friendships.

His loss is felt not only by family, Carol and Penn Reeve, Robert “Bob” Manning and Ruth Dutra, Mary and Doug Cobb, Leonard Manning and nieces, nephews, grand niece and nephews, but by the many lives and hearts he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 22, 2019, 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Herring Cove Pavilion, Herring Cove Beach, Provincetown, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to come and share your memories, laughs, tears and a sunset toast in honor of a man much loved and deeply missed.

In the event of inclement weather, the celebration will be held at St. Mary's of the Harbor, 517 Commercial Street, Provincetown.
