James L. Stoico of Somerville died on Monday, July 15, at Mt. Auburn Hospital of Cambridge. A lifelong Somerville resident, he was the son of the late Joseph and Violet (Conley) Whitaker. James was a good provider for his family and continued to work after retiring from JH Emerson Company in 2005, becoming the “Cheeseman” at Stop-N-Shop in Somerville. He was a caring family man who loved taking his wife out for lunch, was a big Boston sports fan, and loved playing Keno.
James was the beloved husband of Gail (Currier) Stoico, and the devoted father of Susann Keenan and her husband Richard of Pelham, NH, Cynthia Bossi and her husband Paul of Billerica, and Sheri Stoico of Somerville. He was the loving grandfather of Kayli, Victoria, Giana, Anthony and Jason, and the loving great grandfather of five great grandchildren. James was the dear brother of Mary Keefe and her husband Jerry of Billerica, Nancy Consolo of Lowell, Lori Akashian and her husband Michael of Natick, Howie Whitaker and his wife Mary of Chelmsford, David Whitaker and his wife Stacy of Medford, Joseph Stoico of Woburn, and the late Michael Stoico and John Whitaker. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Saturday, July 20 at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford St., Somerville, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday, July 19, from 4 through 8 PM.
