Obituary

CHICOPEE – Margo S. (Angers) Alaimo, 82, a longtime resident of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Sunday, July 14, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at her daughter Diane’s summer home in Westerly, Rhode Island surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on February 3, 1937, a beloved daughter of the late Wilfred J. Angers and Therese (Bissonnette) Angers. She was raised in Springfield, graduated in 1955 from the former Cathedral High School and later moved to Chicopee in 1965 where she lived for the remainder of her life. In 1959, she graduated from American International College in Springfield where she received a Bachelor of Education Degree. Following graduation, Margo began her teaching career in the Chicopee School System where she taught 5th Grade at Anna E. Barry Elementary School for her entire career and retired in 2000. Teaching was in her heart and during her long career she made many friends with her students and co-workers. During her leisure time, she was an avid reader and was often seen at the Chicopee Public Library. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. She leaves her two loving children, David P. Alaimo and his wife, Carol, of Feeding Hills and Diane M. Johnson and her husband, Steven, of Portland, CT; and her four cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Amy and Megan Alaimo and Alexis Alaimo and Marissa Simone Johnson. In addition, she will be missed by her dear friend, Martha Bilo (Diane’s mother-in-law), of Cromwell, CT; her sister-in-law, Constance Angers of Enfield, CT; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and many co-workers. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Gilbert Angers and a very dear friend, Ernest T. Morin. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Prayer Service on Friday morning, July 19, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.). Her burial will follow the service at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Friends of the Chicopee Library, 449 Front Street, Chicopee, MA 01013.
