Obituary

CHICOPEE ~ Ruth E. (Bowden) Gendron, 87, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, July 14, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by all the memories that she loved and cherished. She was born in Springfield on August 17, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late John A. and Virginia E. (Smith) Bowden. She was raised in West Springfield, graduated from West Springfield High School in 1949 and moved to Chicopee in 1950 where she lived the remainder of her life. For many years, Ruth and her late husband, Robert, enjoyed their home in Falmouth on Cape Cod where their family and friends gathered for fun and relaxation. She was employed as a Security Clerk with the Office of Special Investigations at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee for the Department of Defense and retired in 1985. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was a member of the Deadline Club in West Springfield and the Chicopee Police Wives Association. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many dear friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Robert J. “G-1” Gendron who was Called Home on March 6, 2011. They were married on October 7, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Church in West Springfield and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving children, Sherry M. Enserro and her husband, Samuel R. Enserro, and Robert J. Gendron II and his partner, Joan Boratis, all of Chicopee; her four cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Enserro Salvatori and her husband, Thomas Salvatori, Danielle Enserro and her fiancé, Mark Perez, Alison Hargreaves and Robert Gendron III and his wife, Kelly; her four cherished great-grandchildren, Thomas and Carmella Enserro Salvatori and Harry and Toby Hargreaves; her dear sister-in-law, Pauline Gendron of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Gendron and Bowden families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear sister, June A. Ferraro and her husband, John; and her three dear brothers-in-law, Roland Gendron and his wife, Doris, John Gendron and his wife, Frances, and Armand Gendron. Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before the Mass. Her family requests that memorial donations to be made in her memory to Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or to Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen and Pantry, 170 Pendexter Avenue, Chicopee, MA 01013.
