Margie Ellis Whiddon, 93, of Tifton went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 15, 2019, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Victory Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Dan Eidson, the Rev. Jay Kimbro and the Rev. Gerald Purvis officiating. Mrs. Whiddon will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 16, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Whiddon’s grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Michael Ransom, George Whiddon, Travis Whiddon and Matt Rieger, and her nephews, David Ellis and Lamar Ellis, will serve as pallbearers.
Born March 15, 1926 in Tift County, Mrs. Whiddon was the daughter of the late Rev. Walton Jacob Ellis and Nora Walters Ellis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Travis “J. T.” Whiddon; two brothers, Milton Jacob Ellis and Harvey Theron Ellis; and one sister, Nona Verlin Ellis Jones. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Valdosta State College and taught school for 26 years with the Tift County Board of Education and the Colquitt County Board of Education. She was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association; Past President of the Pilot Club of Tifton; and one of the oldest, active members of Victory Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Whiddon leaves to cherish her memory one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Lindsey Evans of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Laura Lynn Whiddon of Social Circle and Farrell and Melinda Whiddon of Cordele; four grandchildren and their spouses, Dara Lynn and Matt Rieger, Travis and Natalie Whiddon, Anna and Michael Ransom and George and Rachel Whiddon; and seven great-grandchildren, Charlotte Ransom, Sam Rieger, Audrey Ransom, Claire Ransom, Adelyn Whiddon, Mae Rieger and Molly Whiddon.
