Charles Edward Bohannon of Millis died on Monday, July 8th, at Tuft's Medical Center of Boston. Born and raised in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Charles and Nellie (Haygood) Bohannon. Charles completed his Masters from Florida State University in Biology and Earth Science. He took further coursework at Bridgewater State, Salem State and Framingham State Universities in Geology, Marine Biology and Botany. Charles proudly served two full years in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, as well as ten years in the Marine Corps Reserve. He worked 8 years as a Science Teacher in Florida, and then taught Biology for 17 years at Natick High School. Charles moved to Millis in 1965 with his wife Carolyn, and has resided at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford for the past six years. He loved Duxbury Beach, Wingaersheek Beach, Rockport, the White Mountains and Maine. Always a collector of minerals and specimens in all his travels, and an avid naturalist, which he has passed on to his daughter, Betty and her sons.
Charles was the Beloved husband of Carolyn (Perkins) Bohannon and the devoted father of Betty Ruby (Bohannon) Elyazidi and her husband Youssef of Medford. He was the loving grandfather of Ali Wraya and Jibriel Elyazidi, and the dear brother of Connie Bohannon of Gainesville, FL, Sandra Sommese of St. Augustine, FL, and Herbert Bohannon, (wife Helen) of Lawtey, FL. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Charles had a fascinating maternal Great-Grandmother, Annie Abbott (Dixie Haygood), "The Little Georgia Magnet", who performed a famous spiritualist/vaudeville act in late Victorian times, all over the world!
A graveside service will be conducted at Knollwood Cemetery, 319 High Street, Canton on Monday, July 15th at 1 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Flowers may be sent directly to Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, MA 02155 by Monday at 10 AM. Charles will be deeply missed and never forgotten!
