Chicopee - Emile J. Rattell, age 84, was called safely home on July 9, 2019 from the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born on May 28, 1935 in Springfield, a son of the late Emile and Eileen Rattell. He graduated from Cathedral High School then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the City of Chicopee as the Director of Veteran Services for many years before he retired. He was also a volunteer Ranger then employed as a Starter at Chicopee Country Club. He taught CCD and was a Lector and Extrodinary Minister at both St. Patrick’s Church in Chicopee and Sacred Heart in Springfield, Past Chairman of the Chicopee St Patrick’s Colleen Contest, Former Ward Six baseball and soccer little league coach and former coach for Tri City Youth Hockey. Emile is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 58 years Patricia (Bozek) Rattell of Chicopee; three sons, Glenn Rattell and his wife April Rowden of San Antonio, TX, David Rattell of Chicopee and Keith Rattell of Chicopee; one sister Barbara Giguere of Wilbraham and his beloved grandchildren Kyle, Kurtis and Kaylie Rattell. He is predeceased by his sister Eileen Roncarati. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Grise` Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday July 18 at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Springfield at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Chicopee Senior Center or Sacred Heart Church.
