Kenneth E. “Ken” House, 90, of Franklin and former long-time resident of South Dennis died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home, Wednesday July 10, 2019 following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Sullivan) House, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born June 28, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Frank R. and Harriet (Reed) House. He was raised in Baldwin, Long Island, NY and moved to Franklin when he was in his twenties. He proudly served in the US Army (1950-1952) during the Korean War.
Ken worked as a design engineer for General Electric for several decades during which time he developed a number of patents. Later in his career he worked for Sikorsky Helicopter Corporation from whom he retired in 1996.
Ken was a member of the Polecats Ski Club, the Dennis-Yarmouth Newcomers, the Sons of Erin, and the Olde Dennis Neighborhood Association. He loved spending time with his family and dog Juno. Over the years Ken enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, playing bridge and Mexican train. One of his favorite activities was gatherings with his wine tasting group.
He is survived by his children, Kate Gordon (Bend, OR); Peter House and his wife Fran D’Arco (Bethel, CT); Joanne Loughlin (Franklin, MA); Daniel House (Pensacola, FL); and Richard House and wife Cindy Schwarz (Hamden, CT).
Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren: Colin, Alexander, Jake, Jenny, Kenny and Sean.
He was the brother of the late Robert G. House and father-in-law to the late Dr. Thomas Gordon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Wednesday, July 17th at 10 am held at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street, followed by an 11 am funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin.
Calling hours are Tuesday, July 16th, from 4-8 pm.
