Alberta Collins Baker, 80, of Tifton passed away Monday, July 8, 2019, at Tift Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Baker at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chip Grantham and the Rev. Robby Paulk officiating. Mrs. Baker will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens with a private family service. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church immediately following the service.
Dale Pflug, Daniel Eichorst, Denny Summers, Ronald Brownlee, Ron Evans and Eddie Sklany will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Vincent Keesee, John Cole and the members of the Beacon Sunday School Class of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church.
Born February 13, 1939, in Montgomery, Alabama, Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late Albert Collins and Julia Higgins Collins. She was also preceded in death by three sisters. She graduated from Auburn University with a B.A. in education and was a retired educator and taught many years in public schools. She was a member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church, where she served on numerous committees and taught Sunday school for many years. Her favorite job at the church was helping the church hostess in the kitchen.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband of 58 years, Shelby Baker of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Joe and Candi Baker of Rome; one daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Daniel Eichorst of Atlanta; and two grandchildren, Josh Baker and Juliann Baker.
