Ashby/Shrewsbury – James Francis Mayrand, 59, of Ashby, formerly of Shrewsbury, died Tuesday, Jan. 10th in UMASS Medical Center, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. James died peacefully surrounded by his family.
He was born in Dover, NH, the son of the late Lionel Edmond Mayrand, Sr. and Eileen (Kelley) Mayrand. He leaves his wife, Karen M. (Lopilato) Mayrand; his adult children, Matthew J. Mayrand of Shrewsbury, Rebecca J. Mayrand of Watertown; his young children, Caitlyn M. and Daniel J. Mayrand, both at home; a brother, Lionel E. Mayrand of San Francisco; an uncle Randy Mayrand of Portsmouth, NH, two aunts Beatrice (Mayrand) Hourihane of Dover, NH and Emma (Mayrand) Cichonski of Rochester, NH; two nieces Cynthia L. (Mayrand) Ohman of Raymond, ME, and Jennifer L. (Mayrand) Filiault of Alfred, ME, and a grand nephew Nathaniel L. Ohman of Raymond, ME, a large number of cousins, and his former wife, Sandra (Hill) Mayrand of Shrewsbury. His entire family will fondly remember James as a hardworking, innovative engineer.
A native of Dover, NH he attended St. Mary Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He attended the University of New Hampshire where he received Bachelor of Science and Master of Electrical Engineering degrees. His career included engineering physics, chip and product design for the following companies: Western Electric, P.R Mallory & Company, Sprague Electric, Digital Equipment Corporation, Data General, Compact, and Hewlett Packard. His work resulted in a number of patented processes and designs. He was a life long member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
After corporate retirement in 2003 James founded a consulting business and acted as the Director of Technical Service. In collaboration with his accountant brother, Lionel Mayrand and his business Complete Business Services of San Francisco, CA, James worked with his brother to focus on innovative product designs. Similar to his father, Lionel Mayrand Sr. who founded Mayrand Electric in 1936, James renewed the Mayrand family’s entrepreneurial spirit. Like two boys working with their late father, Lionel and James Mayrand were again working together in a family business.
Later, through partnership and collaboration, Brian Schumacher of San Mateo California and James founded Complete DVT Solutions, a value added reseller of advanced testing software and equipment. The customer list included major manufacturers of electronic equipment in Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area; leading firms in New England, New York and Canada. James advanced testing seminars included senior scientists from major manufactures from the United States, China, Japan and Canada. James invented two new products for advanced testing and modeling of computer devices. GigaProbes™ his first advanced testing product www.gigaprobes.com will be followed by a second testing product Diamond Socket™ now in production. His advanced developing theories were presented in a number of professional papers. James F. Mayrand was a recognized leader and expert in advanced computer modeling and advanced electronic testing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 14th 10:00AM in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 1 School Street, Townsend. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Dover, NH.
