Robert A. Rose, Sr., 74, of New Bedford passed away on Tuesday July 2, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Melody Ann (DeBarros) Rose.
Born in Wareham, the son of the late Frank and Matilda (Pires) Rose, he was raised in Marion and had lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was formerly employed at Commonwealth Utilities as a supervisor in the meter department until his retirement.
Mr. Rose served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Marion Social Club. He was a volunteer at Holy Family-Holy Name School and the VA Clinic in New Bedford.
He is survived by his wife, Melody; three children, Robert A. Rose, Jr. of Marion, and Scott DeBarros and Melinda Rose, both of New Bedford; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Betty, Patricia, Marcia, Ronald, Peter, David, and Wayne.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday July 5, 2019 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 9 - 11 AM prior to the Funeral Service. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
