WORCESTER: Mary P. (Phelan) Johnson, 89, of Worcester, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006. Her husband of 20 years, Jesse M. Johnson, died in 1957.
She leaves four daughters, Sheila M. Avedian and her husband Vaughn of West Barnstable, Jesslyn P. Johnson of Worcester, Andrea J. Gavin and her husband Peter of Shrewsbury, Patrice F. Johnson of Worcester; three sons, Kevin P. Johnson and his wife Noel of Treasure Island, FL., Philip M. Johnson and his wife Kathleen of Worcester, Terrence P. Johnson and his wife Sally of Palatine, IL; a brother, David Phelan of San Antonio, TX; five grandchildren, V. Stephen Avedian, John D. Avedian, Amy M. Braun, Valerie A. Johnson, Kevin T. Johnson; and a great grandson, Scott S. Avedian.
She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Patrick F. and Josephine (Callahan) Phelan and graduated from Commerce High School.
Mary was an assistant vice-president and branch manager for Shawmut Bank, formerly known as Worcester County National Bank, where she worked for 24 years until retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church and enjoyed spending time with her family and celebrating birthdays.
CALLING HOURS will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13 in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 in ST. JOAN OF ARC CHURCH, 570 Lincoln St., followed by entombment in St. John's Cemetery Mausoleum.
