Robert T. Kenney, age 83, passed away on July 2, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 23, 1936 in Chicopee, a son of the late Francis and Josephine (Cebula) Kenney. Bob attended Holy Name grammar school and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1954. He was a life-time parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Chicopee. He served 2 years active duty in the Army National Guard and 4 years reserve. Bob worked as a Journeyman carpenter, having worked more than 25 years at the Hampden County Hall of Justice in Springfield in the Court Facilities Department. In younger years, he was an avid outdoors man. He loved fishing, hunting and archery. He was a member of the Chicopee Sportsman Club. He loved yearly trips to Saratoga with his best pal Jay and his trips to Foxwoods with his friends from Christ the King Church. He was passionate about his garden and steward of the environment. He kept all his friends supplied with the best tomatoes in Chicopee. Bob loved to cook and his most in demand recipe was “Pepere’s Famous Meatballs”. He also loved the Red Sox and never missed a game. He leaves his loving wife of 56 years, Joanne (Cormier) Kenney, daughter Maureen in Oregon, son James (Sharon) of West Springfield and the lights of his life, 2 precious granddaughters, Lauren and Lindsay Kenney of West Springfield. Brother-in-law, Ernest (Peg) Cormier of Agawam, sister-in-law Jean Kenney of Holyoke, nieces and nephews, Kathleen (Louis) Abbate of Longmeadow, Richard (Julie) Kenney of Springfield, Kevin (Rita) Kenney of Bernardston, Teresa (Michael) Nadeau of Springfield, Joseph (Alice) Cormier of Agawam. He is predeceased by his brother Francis Kenney Jr, his sister, Florence Kenney and his niece Patricia Roy. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 9:00 – 12:00 noon at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM.
