Douglas “Keith” “Red” Smith, 71, of Sumner passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Terron Stonecypher officiating. Mr. Smith will be laid to rest at Sumner Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
The American Legionnaires will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers Bryant Ray Alligood and Massey Cole Franks.
Born August 9, 1947 in Worth County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Verna Lee Smith and Rebecca Lenora Clark Massey. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Christopher Keith Oates. He was retired and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the American Legion and had served as President of the American Legion Riders and was a member of the Tifton Veterans Museum.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Jennifer Juanita Thompson Smith of Sumner; two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna Kaye and Obbie Lee Grant, Jr. of Sumner and Pebbles Lenora Smith of Ellaville; two sons, Brandon James Alligood of Lake City, Florida and Bryant Ray Alligood of Monroe; one brother, Sergeant Walter Gerald Carter, Retired of Anniston, Alabama; three sisters, Deborah Davis of Albany, Ginger Bridges of Poulan and Lynn Brown of Thomasville; five grandchildren , Rebecca Elizabeth Robertson, Massey Cole Franks, Michaela Marie Harris, Sierra Rose Harris and Sienna Rain Harris; and two great-grandchildren, Jaylen Malique Toles and Mirror Aubriella Sand.
