Hans E. Bloemink 84, of Franklin, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Thursday June 27, 2019 at Beth Israel Deaconess-Hospital, Needham, following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Gunnlaug (Aurebekk) Bloemink, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born June 21, 1935 in Amersfoort, Holland the Netherlands, a son of the late Jan and Wilhelmina J.L. (Scheffers) Bloemink, he was a resident of Franklin since 1965.
Hans was raised and educated in occupied Holland during World War II and later went on to serve in the Dutch Navy, stationed in New Guinea. He came to the United States in 1957, later becoming a U.S. citizen. He was very proud of both his Dutch heritage and his adopted country. Within a few years, he met the love of his life at the International Student Center in Cambridge.
He had a great love of all things cars, and worked as a parts manager at dealerships, specializing in SAAB, Alfa Romeo, and Ferrari. He was also an avid fan of Formula 1 racing. Hans enjoyed spending time with his family, taking care of his property, and traveling. He will be remembered for his passion for cheese, quick wit, love of adventure, and devotion to his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Stefanie Thorne and her husband Robert of Franklin, Kristina B. Jodice and her husband James of Plymouth, a sister Ekaterina Huissman-Bloemink of Holland and his cherished grandchildren, Erika & Lillian Thorne, Jennifer & Christopher Jodice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Thursday July 11th, in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. at 7PM.
