WESTBROOK- Richard A. Connelly of Westbrook, Maine passed away Friday, June 28 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
Richard was born on March 8, 1956 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was the son of the late Maurice and Jeanette (Frost) Connelly.
Richard grew up in Westland, Michigan and relocated to San Francisco in the 1970s. He worked for many years in The City as a bartender in neighborhood bars and on Fisherman’s Wharf. He retired from bartending in 2000, and spent the next 10 years as a nanny to his nephews Elliot and James. In 2010, Richard moved from the Bay Area to northern Michigan to care for his father. He moved to Maine in 2015, where he enjoyed buying and selling antiques and vintage toys.
He was a lifelong learner - always researching, planning and trying something new. Some of the many things Richard enjoyed were cooking, gardening, reading, painting, playing piano and going on adventures with his nephews.
His family and friends remember his laugh, quick wit and generous heart. He made friends wherever he went. Everyone loved Richard.
Richard is survived by his brothers Dan Connelly of Intercession City, Florida, David (Amy) Connelly of Summerfield, Florida, sister Cindy (John) Voltz of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Jeanette Connelly and brother James Connelly.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of Southern Maine and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their care and support.
