Obituary

New Bedford – George L. Thompson, Sr., 68, of East Freetown died January 11, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Anna (Glowacki) Thompson, they were married for 46 years.

Mr. Thompson was born in New Bedford, son of the late William C. Thompson, Sr. and the late Zylpha (Wilson) Thompson, and resided in Freetown for the past 29 years. He lived his youth in Rochester and enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 18 and honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he worked as a master pipe fitter, plumber and heating technician. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He has always been a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed and always honored by his family whose comfort is in the knowledge that God has welcomed home His son.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by a son: George L. Thompson, Jr. of E. Freetown; 2 daughters: Linda Gail Hunt of Freetown and Lee Ann Thompson Akter and her husband Emre of Derby, CT; 3 grandchildren: Shanna Hunt, Anna Theresa Akter and John Paul Akter; 4 brothers: William C. Thompson, Jr. of Acushnet, Robert A. Thompson of New Bedford, John H. Thompson, Sr. of Centerville, and Henry A. Thompson of S. Dartmouth; 2 sisters: Barbara L. Nolin of New Bedford and Rita M. Perry of Rochester; and several nieces & nephews.

He was brother of the late Edith M. Thompson.

Funeral service on Friday, January 13, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at the KIRBY FUNERAL HOME, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.

Calling hours are respectfully omitted.

Interment in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet.
