Obituary

Kenneth Ray Swain, 92 years old, almost 93 on July 4, 2019, passed away on June 14, 2019 unexpectedly while recovering from hip surgery at Life Care Center of Acton, MA. He was born July 4, 1926 in Stoneham, MA. He was the son of the late Mary Gladys (Smith) Swain and Harold Huntoon Swain. He grew up in North Reading and then as a child moved to Medford, MA and lived a wonderful, happy life. He went to vocational school where he learned his trade and loved his work as a quality control engineer for Barry Industries as well as a production manager for Winn Company.

After his graduation from vocational school he enlisted in the Navy. He loved and protected our country as he was a 4th of July Baby. He served in WWII. He met the love of his life, Myrtle Irene Farrar, at a church social event at a roller skating rink in Medford. They married on June 13. They never had children but enjoyed each other with travel and their love and lives together. Kenny’s hobbies included his love of trains and enjoyed his many years of trips and travel together which included Bermuda, Hawaii, Panama Canal, Canada, Alaska, State Parks and many others. They love summers at their place at Lake Shore Park in Gilford, NH on Lake Winnipesaukee where they had many close and dear friends.

Kenny was a very active member at West Medford Baptist Church, serving on the finance board and many other activities and, at times, could be found sleeping on the downstairs sofa waiting for Myrtle to finish Choir practice or other meetings. They were loving and generous and sent a family member to a Christian Camp, Word of Life Camp, in upper New York where this boy accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

He loved his family and friends, traveling, his trains and his summer boat. Kenny was a dedicated husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was always helping out. If there was an automobile accident you would see him directing traffic or lending a helping hand or ride to a friend in need, anywhere or anytime. Kenny was honest, kind, caring, loyal, true, loving, helpful and determined. He was one of a kind and we will truly miss him. Kenneth is survived by his sister Lillian (Swain) Andrews and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Friday June 28, 2019, at noon. Visitation will be held in the funeral home, prior to the service, from 11 AM to noon. All are welcome. Interment will take place at a later date.
