Obituary

Daniel James Adams, 29, of Whitman, Massachusetts passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his family after a lifelong courageous battle with Canavan’s Leukodystrophy.

Daniel was born February 26, 1990 at Waltham-Weston Hospital in Waltham, Massachusetts. Dear and loving son of Daniel L. Adams and Karyl L. (Torrey) Adams, cherished brother to Michael T. Adams and Eric D. Adams, all of Whitman. Grandson to the late Earle D. Torrey and Miriam (Olson) Torrey and the late Thomas M. Adams and Marjorie F. (Coyle) Adams. He will be sorely missed by many beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A teacher his entire life, Daniel would teach without a word, without a step he would lead. His perseverance will continue to be a lesson for all. If the eyes are the window to the soul, then rarely has there been a more beautiful soul to grace this Earth. With piercing blue eyes and golden red hair, Daniel radiated love with his smile which would light up the room for all who met him.

Daniel was a 2012 Graduate of Whitman Hanson Regional HS. He attended the North River Collaborative, South Shore Collaborative, and was currently enrolled at Road to Responsibility in Hingham. Each day was a joy for Daniel to be with his friends, yet the greatest joy was his arrival back home to the loving arms of his mother, who selflessly sacrificed career and time to care for her sweet Daniel.

At home Daniel enjoyed music, especially the sound of his mother’s singing throughout the house, his brothers playing guitar and singing their songs, and the sounds of nature from his backyard. Although an attentive audience to his father's Irish singing, he knew his father enjoyed it more...and that made them both happy.

Daniel enjoyed many special times, from camping at Normandy Farms to a memorable trip to Give Kids The World in Florida, which provides cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families. Yet, his most treasured days were rides to Nantasket Beach with Daddy and Mama, where riding on the carousel and the sights and sounds of the arcade brought him great happiness. The sounds of children’s laughter was a delight to Daniel’s ears.

With the strength of his mother's faith in Jehovah, Daniel was taught the promise of paradise Earth awaiting, where “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor crying, nor pain be and more, the former things have passed away.” (Rev 21.4).

Every sunrise, every sunset, every Spring rain, every Summer day, every Autumn when the leaves begin to fall, every Winter’s freshly fallen snow, every ocean, lake, stream, and waterfall……there you are, always with us.

Thank you to all the caregivers Daniel had throughout his life both at home as well as in his day programs. Especially Anmarie Dackers, Kathy O’Loughlin, Kate Stevens, and the late Doris Riordon.

Thank you to Dr. David Urion of Boston Children's Hospital, Dr. Elizabeth Dooling of Mass General Hospital, Dr. David Chiang of South Shore Medical Center, and Dr. Ronald Sunog for their dedication to the treatment and care of Daniel.

Respectfully, services will be private. Cards of sympathy, hope, and love will strengthen us in this time of need.

In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks for donations in Daniel’s name to Give Kids The World (www.gktw.org), or for you to perform a random act of kindness in his honor.
