Charles L. "Chuck" Valentine, Sr., a resident of Medford for the past forty eight years, passed away on Thursday, June 20th. He was 80. Born and raised in Pleasant Plain, Ohio, he was the son the late Raymond and Easter Evelyn (Kerr) Valentine.
Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy in the summer of 1957, from Columbus, Ohio, serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in the summer of 1961 from the USS John Willis, which was docked in Newport, R.I. After his enlistment Chuck settled in Medford with his loving wife Alice and became a police officer for Massport. He enjoyed many years of dedicated service up to his retirement.
Chuck loved all types of animals, especially squirrels. The neighborhood squirrels were trained to know when to eat, making them quite plump, which led Alice and Chuck to make weekly trips to BJ's so they were always prepared for their furry visitors. Not only were they fed daily they were provided homemade shelters to keep them dry, and occasionally allowed to wonder through the kitchen with Alice.
When Chuck was not spending time with his squirrels, he enjoyed playing softball with his buddies, blaring country western music, frequent trips back to Ohio to go hunting with his brothers and his son Chuckie, Jr. and an active member of the Malden, Moose Club. Chuck was a wonderful husband, an awesome dad, a proud Papa and will be greatly missed by all.
Charles was the beloved husband of Alice (King) Valentine. He was the devoted father of Barbara Jean Callaway, and her late husband Dwaine, Thomas Valentine, and his wife Debbie, Edward Valentine, and his wife Cheryl, Sharon Martin, and her husband Jeffery, Dennie Valentine, and his wife Elizabeth, Cynthia Valentine, Charles Valentine, Jr., and his wife Babette, Raymond Valentine, and the late Donna Valentine, and her surviving husband Kenneth Blystone.
