Obituary

CHICOPEE ~ Edward J. “Eddie” Mrzyglod, 75, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, June 17, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. Eddie was born in Holyoke on November 21, 1943, a beloved son of the late Stanley and Camille (Liguz) Mrzyglod. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke High School and had lived in Holyoke for most of his life before moving to Chicopee in 2016. He lived briefly in Florida but missed his family here and returned home. Eddie served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy aboard the USS Saratoga and attained the rank of Damage Controlman Petty Officer Second Class. He received the National Defense Service Medal. Eddie was employed for many years as a delivery driver for the Holyoke Newspaper. During his leisure time, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching his beloved New England Patriots and attending local car shows. Always a quiet man, Eddie loved spending time with his family and many friends. Eddie leaves his beloved nephew and his wife, John and Sue Mrzyglod of Chicopee with whom he lived and who lovingly cared for him during his illness; his two nieces, Debbie Hannum-Auman and her husband, Jimmy, of Chicopee and Judy Pride and her husband, Robert, of Belchertown; his cherished grandnephew, Steven Mrzyglod of Chicopee; his two grandnephews, David Hannum and Zack Auman; his two grandnieces, Kelsey and Alyssa Fleurent; and his many dear friends. Eddie will also be deeply missed by his beloved canine companion, his Australian Shepherd and Siberian Husky mix, Tatiana Marie “Mrs. T” Mrzyglod. Family and friends are invited to attend a Committal Service with United States Naval Military Honors on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, Eddie’s family requests that memorial donations be made in memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, (Please specify Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
