TEWKSBURY: William J. Barnes, age 59, a resident of Tewksbury for 28 years, passed away on June 15, 2019 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (O’Keefe) Barnes with whom he celebrated their 27 wedding anniversary on October 27, 2018.
Born in Boston on May 9, 1960, he was the beloved son of Rose (LeBlanc) (Barnes) Shuttleworth, who survives him, of Saco, ME.
Bill was raised in Burlington, and graduated from Burlington High School in 1978.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded several decorations for his service including two Rifle Expert Badges, a Certificate of Commendation, the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one star, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Bill was employed as a Building Engineer by Cushman & Wakefield Services.
He enjoyed many activities including spending time with his family and friends, traveling, riding his Harley, kitchen dancing, attending concerts, bowling, and enjoying a cigar and bourbon with his brother-in-law Rick Merrick.
In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves two children, Joshua M. Barnes of Malden and Sarah E. Barnes of Tewksbury; his sister, Katherine Barnes and her companion James Lynes of Saco, ME; his father-in-law, James F. O’Keefe of Tewksbury and his late wife, Marjorie A. O’Keefe; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kathy Lawton of Nashua, NH, Stephen O’Keefe and his wife Brenda of Lowell, Christine Merrick and her husband Rick of Tewksbury, Julie Richter and her husband Bob of Billerica, John O’Keefe and his wife Kate of Fayetteville, NC, and Lynne O’Keefe of Seattle, WA; also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and his friend Chuck Lawton.
Memorial calling hours are Thursday, June 20, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Family and friends are invited to meet on Friday, June 21, at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury for his Memorial Funeral Mass.
