Ronald L. MacMurdo Sr.
...former owner of Charles Transportation Co.; 72
TEWKSBURY - Ronald L. MacMurdo, age 72, a former owner of a South Shore bus company,
died Monday evening, Jan. 9, at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell after a lengthy illness.
He was the husband of the late Barbara A. (Braswell) MacMurdo, and earlier, the late Nelba
(Morelli) MacMurdo.
He was born in Medford on September 13, 1933, a son of the late Leslie B. and Dorothy
(Sherman) MacMurdo. Upon the death of his father in his early years, he was raised in Medford
and Stoneham by his mother and step-father, the late Rosario “Sal” Garofalo. He lived the
greater part of his life in Quincy, but had moved to Tewksbury in 2002.
During the Korean War, he served stateside in the US Air Force.
He purchased the Charles Transportation Company in Quincy from his family and operated the
bus company for many years.
In his earlier years, he was active in the Holbrook Knights of Columbus, and throughout his life
was an avid golfer.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jill (Perrin) MacMurdo of
Tewksbury, Ronald L. MacMurdo Jr and his wife Barbara (Godfrey) MacMurdo of Middleboro,
Michael and Phyllis (Fontana) MacMurdo of Holbrook; two daughters and a son-in-law, Silvia
MacMurdo of Canton and Leslie A. Morin and her husband Michael W. Morin of Mooresville,
N.C.; ten grandchildren, Rileigh, Jenna, Travis, Ryan, Amanda, Linsey, Lauren, Emily and
Michael MacMurdo Jr, and Samantha Morin; a sister, Beverly Holub of ID; two brothers, Paul
MacMurdo of Brockton, Robert MacMurdo of Boston; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Bonnie MacMurdo.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday, Jan. 20, at 10:00 a.m. in St.
Gerard Majella Church, 1860 Washington St., Canton, MA. Memorials
to the American Lung Assn., P.O. Box 265, Burlington, MA 01803-0465, will be appreciated.
