Beverly, MA ~ Hayward Rowe, lately of Beverly, died on May 29, 2019, at Pendleton Health Center in Mystic, Conn. He had been lovingly cared for by Chestnut Cottage (The Elms) in Westerly, R.I., for the past few years.
Hayward was born October 25, 1938, in Hackensack, NJ, and grew up in Montclair, NJ, the only son of Standish Salisbury Rowe and Amanda Hayward Rowe. His family dates to the Mayflower landing in 1620. He was a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture. He served with the U.S. Army and the Massachusetts National Guard. He was Master of Liberty Lodge A.F. & A.M. and was a member of several local patriotic and service organizations. He worked in several Massachusetts architecture firms before forming the Boston partnership of Rowe & Lewis, Inc. The firm assisted with the building design during an expansion of Wellesley College. Hayward also designed a beautiful family home on Lake Champlain in Plattsburgh, NY, where a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 8th.
He is survived by his cousins Frances Rowe Hohenstein (Floyd ) and William Gregory Parmele (Joanne). He was predeceased by his cousins Edward A. Parmele and William Lewis Rowe III (Katherine). He will be greatly missed by his extended family.
