Dimitrios “James” Dimopoulos, 75 of Whitman, Massachusetts passes away on June 3, 2019 at South Shore Hospital.
Born on September 6, 1943 in Greece, he was the son of the late Vasilis and Theoni (Tyrosvoutis) Dimopoulos.
Jimmy emigrated from Greece to Toronto, Canada in 1965 and then settled in the United State in 1969.
He had worked as a Pipe Fitter by trade, later becoming a Commercial Fisherman, and later worked his way up becoming Captain.
Jimmy was a pleasure to be around, and was always the “life of the party”. He was sure to put a smile on your face regardless of who you were. He was truly the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back.
When Jimmy wasn’t working hard out at sea, he enjoyed watching our beloved Boston Sports teams. Even when he wasn’t commercial fishing (which was 8-10 days on and 2-3 days off) he still enjoyed spending his free time fishing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Panagiota (Topouzoglou) Dimopoulos, his daughters Theoni D. Reis and her fiancée Lawrence T. Wright, III of East Bridgewater and Hariklia D. Coulstring of Rockland, his cherished grandchildren; Robert N. Coulstring, IV of Rockland, Adriana Reis of East Bridgewater and Alexa D. Coulstring of Rockland. He is also survived by his sister Aprodite Kroussas and his brothers Nikos and Gregory Dimopoulos all of Kato Achaia, Greece.
Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Monday June 10 at 10:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Saint James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday June 9 from 3:00-6:00 PM.
