Antonio Monteiro, 85, of New Bedford died Monday January 9, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Felicidade (Pinheiro) Monteiro; they had been married for 51 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel and Ana J. (Vida) Monteiro, he was raised in Portugal and returned to New Bedford in 1960.
Mr. Monteiro was formerly employed as a machinist for Borg-Warner, Inc. until his retirement. He had previously worked for Campanella & Cardi Construction Company.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Americo Monteiro of Berkley, Antonio Monteiro of Leominster, Mario Monteiro of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Michael Monteiro of New Bedford; a daughter, Maria Sullivan of New Bedford; a brother, Jose Monteiro; and nine grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a late brother and sister.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday evening January 11, 2006 at 8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM, prior to the service.
