John A. "Art" Harrington, of Medford, passed away on Saturday, June 1st. He was 81. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late John and Alice (Lavalle) Harrington.
Art enlisted into the United States Navy from Boston in 1958, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in the fall of 1962. Art was a dedicated carpet salesman for the Home Depot for many years. He absolutely loved his job, and it showed by the many friendships that he established. He was known to be an "Avid card shark that enjoyed showing off his Texas hold 'em skills either from home, on the computer, or at the casino". A natural instigator he was notorious for always soaking his family with water guns, no matter where, when or what they were doing.
When Art was not deliberately soaking his family, you could find him in the kitchen enjoying a big bowl of Kellogg's Froot Loops, walking Revere beach with his wife Beverly, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all.
John was the beloved husband of Beverly (Weir) Harrington. He was the devoted father of Elizabeth Douglass, and her husband Glenn, Gail Harrington Powderly, and her husband Kevin, Jayne LaFlamme, and her husband Robert, Lisa Quimby, and her husband Jim, Amy Milano, and the late William F. Meagher, Jr. He was the loving papa of 11, and great-papa of 4. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.
A funeral service will be celebrated in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Saturday, June 8th at 5 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 1 to 5 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in John's name to the National Kidney Foundation, 209 West Central St., Natick, MA 01760 or donate online at www.kidneyhealth.org. Late Korean War Navy Veteran.
