Gerald “Jake” John Brookhart, Sr., 79, of Fallston, MD, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on May 31, 2019. Jake was born April 26, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Hugh and Frances (Kearney) Brookhart.
At age 18, Jake joined the United States Marine Corps. He went on to serve four years with the 5th Marine Division at Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina as a heavy equipment operator and machinery specialist. He was discharged with full honors in 1963. Private First Class Brookhart was a brave and loyal Marine, as well as an incredibly loving husband and father. He married Patricia Branagan in 1964.
A hard-working mechanic, Jake could fix anything. His many talents included cooking, gardening and making you laugh so hard, your sides hurt! The world lost a true hero, and his family will forever miss his belly laughs.
In addition to his son Gerald “Jerry” John Brookhart, Jr., Jake is survived by his brother Ronald Brookhart (Tinker), and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Pat, brother Hugh F. Brookhart, Jr. and sister Mary C. Mihaltian.
Visitation will be held at The Johnson-Fosbrink Funeral Home, 8521 Loch Raven Blvd. on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. at The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 8501 Loch Raven Blvd. Interment to follow at Goodwill Cemetery, Fallston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Humane Society.
