R.L. Wilkerson, 72, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, May 31, 2019, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Graveside services will be held 10 AM, Monday, June 3, 2019, at Salem Cemetery in Ben Hill County, with the Rev. Justin McCrimmon officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Wilkerson was born March 4, 1947, in Wilcox County, Georgia, to the late Richard & Evelyn Watts Wilkerson. He worked as a mechanic for many years. He also operated heavy equipment and was a truck driver. Mr. Wilkerson worked for John O. Cook, Inc. and International Tractor. He loved watching the chickens and sitting on his porch drinking coffee and listening to music. He was a member of the former Northside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children: Lamar & Debra Collier of Ashburn, Janice & Joey Tucker of Ocilla, and Billy & Charity Wilkerson of Fitzgerald; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Ann Lewis of Irwin County, Sandra & Jack Smith of Fitzgerald, and Janice & Thomas Padgett of Fitzgerald. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammie Brewer and a brother-in-law, Buster Lewis.
