Obituary

Donald Ellsworth Daggett, 71, passed away May 25, 2019 after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Westerly, RI to the late Clarence and Agnes (Kendzia) Daggett. He married Sandra Hayward on August 2, 1970 at Shepherd of the Sea in Groton, CT.

Besides his wife, Donald is survived by his son Steven Daggett, daughters Lisa Garner and Sherrie (Roger) Allen, daughter-in-law’s Raphaella and Kitsa Daggett, 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and his beloved dogs Timba, Harley, and Shelby. He was predeceased by his son Michael Daggett Sr. and sister Kathleen Daggett.

Donald was a former member of the US Marine Corps receiving the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation (Gallantry Cross and Civil Acton Color) with Palm & Frame, Purple Heart with 1 Gold Star, National Defenses Services Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Navy/USCG Unit Commendation Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Rifle Marksmanship Badge. He served 4 tours in the Vietnam War.

He was formerly employed at Electric Boat, Foxwoods Resort Casino, and was a proud co-owner of Sandy’s Lighthouse Bar & Grill. He was also a former volunteer at the Mashantucket Pequot Fire Department and Ledyard Fire Company. He enjoyed fishing, the beach, had a love for motorcycles and old western movies.

Calling hours will be at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St. Historic downtown Mystic on Monday, June 3, from 5-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00am at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, Groton, CT. Internment will immediately follow at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery in Ledyard, CT.
