Sylvia Rae Penney, 84, of Londonderry, NH passed away, Friday May 24, 2019 at her residence after a period of declining health. Sylvia was born January 9, 1935 in Lowell, MA and was a daughter of the late Henry and Neta (Googins) Salisbury. She was raised and educated in Billerica, MA and resided in Tewksbury, MA for over 30 years prior to relocating to Londonderry in 1976.
Sylvia owned and operated Penney’s Autobody in Tewksbury, MA with her late husband, “Penney” and continued to operate it after his passing. She later worked as a bookkeeper at the Good News Book Store of Londonderry. Sylvia was a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and a longtime member of the Southside Bible Fellowship of Manchester, NH. She was also on the Board of Directors for the Boylston Home for Girls of Manchester, NH. The most important thing to Sylvia was her family and her beloved cat “Whiskers”.
Members of the family include her daughter, Barbara Bailey and her husband Roy of Londonderry, daughter, Marilyn Penney of Rochester, NH, her grandchildren, Russell and Sam Bailey, both of Londonderry, and Amanda Bailey of Danville, NH and a great granddaughter, Rachel Bailey of Londonderry. Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Staveley “Penney” Penney in 1974 and was the youngest and final survivor of 8 siblings in her family.
There are no calling hours. After cremation a private committal was held in Tewksbury Cemetery, Tewksbury, MA.
