Obituary

Ms. Lounelle "Elle" Beecher, daughter of the late Thomas Amos and Ruth Merritt, of Ambrose (Coffee County), Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

She was 76 and was living as a retiree in an Easley, SC, at a faith based retirement village. She was a baccalaureate graduate of Georgia Southern University, where she recently attended her 50-year college reunion. She earned both a Master's and Education Specialist Degrees in School Leadership and Supervision from what is formally known as Augusta College. She taught history and Psychology thirty (30) years at Butler High School and was twice Richmond County Teacher of the Year. She then served as the Richmond County BOE's, History and Foreign Language Coordinator where she was awarded a Teaching of American History Grant. She loved interacting with young people and subscribed to modeling and teaching good citizenship. Elle loved to travel and was part of the Augusta Friendship Force and often participated in student and teacher exchanges. The highlight of her career was becoming a Fulbright Scholar and traveling to Japan. Lounelle was a participant in Delta Kappa Gamma International, The National Education Association, The Augusta Historical Society, and Friends of the Library.

She is survived by two daughters, Victoria, of the Greater Greenville area, and Drucilla Charlene, of Charleston, as well as their spouses David Lowell and Brian. She is also survived by two sisters Faye Merritt and Carolyn Bryson. She was a treasured friend, teacher, leader, and mother.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 11:00 AM, in the Foothills Presbyterian Home Chapel, 201 Bud Nalley Drive, Easley, SC 29642. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Foothills Presbyterian Home prior to the service.
A Seaside Celebration of Life Service will be held in Augusta, Georgia on the Savannah River aboard the Patriot Riverboat on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM. The boat has a seating capacity of 60 passengers. Friends must RSVP via email with their name and contact telephone number for each attendee to : [email protected].
The final service will be at DeBerry Baptist Church in Ambrose, GA. The service day will be announced.

The family asks for flowers to be omitted and memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville's Capital Campaign Fund, 200 West Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
