Born on May 8, 1959, June was a lifelong resident of Tifton and a 1977 graduate of Tift County High School. After attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for two years, June transferred to and later graduated from Troy State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She was trained and credentialed as a Certified Public Accountant. June was a highly respected accounting professional, having worked in both public and private accounting in Tifton for many years, including volunteer service with the United Way. Her cancer diagnosis necessitated retirement in 2011. After retirement, June discovered her love and uncanny skill of oil painting, especially nature scenes observed on family vacations. June was a devout Christian and a stalwart member of First Baptist Church of Tifton where she worked for many years with the Children’s Music Ministry.
June was the mother of twin daughters, Anna and Sara. They were sources of immense pride for June and she loved them very much. After her cancer diagnosis in 2009, June was determined to see them graduate from college and enter adulthood. By the grace of God, she succeeded. June inspired all who knew her with the grace and dignity with which she faced cancer. Never one to complain, June demonstrated how to address seemingly insurmountable challenges with grace, tenacity, and above all – Faith. June was an inspiration to many.
June is survived by her husband of 29 years, Dr. W. Carroll Johnson, III; daughters, Anna Murry Johnson of Auburn, AL and Sara Carroll Johnson of Statesboro; her mother, Sara Fulton Womack of Chula; sisters, Debra Sistrunk (Callen) of Placentia, CA and Mona Mathews (Lee) of Chula; and numerous nephews and nieces.
