Obituary

Edwin David McDonald, Sr., 87, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, died Thursday, January 5, 2006, at his home in Fort Lauderdale.

Service will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 14, 2006, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. McDonald was born August 23, 1918, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Alex Jackson and Mollie Lee Dorminy McDonald. He was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and the University of Georgia with a degree in law and accounting, where he was a member of the Men’s Glee Club and a jitterbug dance champion. He was a World War II Veteran of US Army Air Forces and later served in the US Air Force and was Base Provost Marshall at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. He lived in Muskegon, Michigan for ten years where he was Secretary Treasurer with Muskegon Trust Company. He moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1953, where he established the Trust Department of the First National Bank. He later began a private law practice, retiring in 2003. He was a Lt. Colonel in the Florida Civil Air Patrol and Commander at Fort Lauderdale unit. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale and Sunday School teacher of the Men’s Class.

Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife: June B. McDonald of Fort Lauderdale; sons: Edwin David (Lene) McDonald, Jr., of Grapevine, TX, Alex J. (Susan) McDonald of Deerfield Beach, FL and Dr. John Carl (Wendy) McDonald of Hallsville, TX; daughter: Mary Lee Simmons of Grayson, GA; grandchildren: Edwin David McDonald, III of Southlake, TX, Ian Robert Simmons, Scott Edward Simmons and Amy Elizabeth Simmons all of Grayson and Anthony Ivar McDonald of Plantation, FL; great-grandchildren: Jordan Thompson, Amanda Thompson and Kylie Ann McDonald; sister: Ann McDonald Steed of Fitzgerald, GA. He was preceded in death by Brothers, Willis, Alex & Paul McDonald and sisters, Eugenia McDonald, Mollie Nell McDonald and Frances Peavy.
