Iracema P. (Pires) Ramos, 88 of New Bedford died May 15, 2019 peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of Olavo Ramos.
Born and raised in Fogo, Cape Verde, daughter of the late Jose and Isabel (DaViega) Pires, she moved to New Bedford in 1983.
She had strong faith in family and God. As the matriarch of the family, she enjoyed spending time with her family and making cachupa.
Survivors include her husband; her 8 children, Maria DaCruz Pires of Portugal, Manuel Pires and his wife Maria, Orlando Ramos and his wife Julia, Maria D. Pires and her husband Joao, Mariazinha Gonsalves and her husband Manuel, Amelia Ramos and her husband Joao Andrade and Angela Ribeiro and her husband Fidelio, all of New Bedford and John Ramos and his wife Anna of Acushnet; 30 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Manuel Ramos and Isabel Ramos, grandmother of the late Joel Pires, Edson Ramos, Thalia Ramos and Nevaeh Ramos and the great-great-grandmother of the late Jayce Ramos.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, May 18th at 8:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:45 AM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, May 17th from 4-8 PM.
