Obituary

Mary Elizabeth (Fletcher) Drury of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on May 9, 2019, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. She was 101 years old.

Mary was born at home in Omega, Georgia, on September 17, 1917; she was the daughter of Lenton and Ola (Smith) Fletcher, both of whom preceded her in death.

The family moved to Enigma, Georgia, shortly after her birth in 1918. Mary grew up and went to school in Enigma, where she graduated from Enigma High School in 1936. She had seven brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded her in death: Rosalie Lee; Catherine Smith; Robert Leon (Bud) Fletcher; Aubrey Fletcher; Ollie Mae Brown; Lenton Fletcher, Jr.; and Royce Fletcher.

Mary met her husband, Grover Charles Drury from Wellesley, Massachusetts, while visiting her sister Catherine in Miami in 1940 . They were married in 1941 and lived in Miami throughout their marriage. They had three children: Ronald, Betty, and Darrel. Grover was a successful building contractor in Miami until his death in 1982. They had a long and loving marriage.

She continued to live in Miami until 2005, when she and her daughter moved to Tallahassee, Florida. Mary celebrated her 100th birthday on September 17, 2017, at a beautiful party in Tallahassee with her family and friends. She was blessed to be able to live independently in her own home until her death.

Mary was loved by everyone who knew her for her sweet personality, her positive attitude, her generosity, and her kindness. She will be missed every day, especially by her family. She is survived by her son, Ronald Drury of Hendersonville, NC; her daughter, Betty Drury of Tallahassee, FL; her son, Darrel Drury (Joan) of Sarasota, FL; her granddaughter, Deborah Frieling (Scott) of Knoxville, TN; her grandson, Dylan Drury of Alexandria, VA; her great grandson, Scott Frieling, Jr. (Megan) of Denver, CO; her great grandson, Matthew Frieling of Chicago, IL; and so many beloved nieces and nephews. All of those who knew Mary will also miss her greatly. Her beautiful spirit will live on forever.

The service will be held in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals on Friday, May 17th, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
