HOLYOKE ~ Emily S. (Skypeck) Storozuk, 98, a former longtime resident of the Prospect Heights Apartments in Holyoke, was Called Safely Home on Friday, May 10, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Health Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by all the memories that she loved and cherished. She was born in Holyoke on August 20, 1920, a beloved daughter of the late John and Clara (Stakowiak) Skrzypek. She was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke High School in 1938 and had lived in Holyoke most of her life. She was a skilled seamstress and worked at the former Elco Dress Company and previously worked at the Victory Dress Company, both in Holyoke. She was proud to have been the first tenant to move into the Prospect Heights Apartments and had lived there for over 40 years. She was very active with the Prospect Heights Apartments Association where she served in every capacity including Past President. She often reflected from her apartment balcony about missing the beautiful view she had of her beloved closed former church, Mater Dolorosa Church, and Kay’s Bakery, where she enjoyed many baked treats. While a communicant of Mater Dolorosa Church, she actively volunteered for 25 years at the school’s pre-school program where she was known to many of the young children as “Miss Emily”. She was also a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Rosary Sodality and enjoyed volunteering at their many winter festivals and summer bazaars. She also volunteered at Holyoke Hospital and was a voting poll worker for the Dity of Holyoke. She currently was a communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Church in Holyoke. Above all, Emily was a people person and loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Theodore Stanley Storozuk who was Called Home on February 8, 1965. They were married at Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke on October 1, 1944 and were blessed with over 20 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving son and daughter-in-law, Robert T. Storozuk and his wife, Diane, of Chicopee; her two cherished grandchildren, Dr. Scott R. Storozuk and his wife, Dr. Anna Storozuk, of Chicopee and Leslie D. Moutafis and her husband, John, of Longmeadow; her four cherished great-grandchildren, Stephen Storozuk and his wife, Rebecca, Jessica and Stephanie Storozuk and Alexandra Moutafis; her special niece, Betty St. Laurent of Chicopee; her special grand niece, Debbie Quattrocchi of Florida; and her many dear nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, many friends including Richie and his family and Evans, and extended members of the Storozuk and Skypeck families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her two dear brothers, Albert and George Skypeck; and her four dear sisters, Katharine Skypeck, Nellie Zajac, Bertha Testoni and Helen Layzer. Her family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and caregivers on the third floor at the Holyoke Health Care Center for the wonderful and compassionate care that was given to Emily especially in the past few weeks of her life.
