Maurice Swanson, 85, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Serenity Place Hospice in Dublin.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, May 10, 2019, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Blane Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Swanson was born April 12, 1934, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Roy & Ruth Stanford Swanson. He was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and earned his Associates degree from South Georgia College. He sold cars for Stone Motor Company and was a career-long insurance salesman with Liberty National Life Insurance Company. Mr. Swanson was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time each day at his farm. He loved to fish and hunt and one of his most memorable catches was featured in an article that appeared in Field & Stream magazine. The photo from that article is displayed at Bass Pro Shops in Macon. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Margie Swanson of Fitzgerald; a daughter, Robin Martin & Jay of Dublin; a granddaughter, Sarah Martin of Dublin; step-daughters: Shelia & Dover Bishop and Sharon Beall, all of Fitzgerald; step-grandchildren: Courtnie & Dwain Parrish, Beth & Dallas Rodgers, Ashley & Justin Coleman, and Joseph Bishop; and step-great-grandchildren: Emily Parrish, Kade Parrish, Brodie Coleman, Autumn Coleman, Quinn Parrish, Kendall AsaMarie Coleman, and Raylee Rodgers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Earle Steed Swanson and a step-son-in-law, Charlie Beall.
