Obituary

Kenneth C. Mellen,51, of 278 Main St.,died Thursday, Jan. 5 at Beth
Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.
He leaves his wife of 27 years, Susan (Sylwanovicz) Mellen, a son Andrew W.
Mellen, a daughter Catherine A. Mellen both of Spencer, a brother Brian J.
Mellen of Millbury, three sisters Debra Caruso of Danielson, Ct., Elaine
Corrieri of Blackstone and Nancy Bickford of Sutton, several nieces and
nephews.
Mr. Mellen was Director of Management Information Systems for the V.N.A.
Care Network in Worcester where he has worked for several years. Previously,
he worked as a Registered Nurse at Memorial Hospital C.C.U and then
Hahnemann Hospital Emergency and I.C.U. where he was awarded the "Circle of
Excellence Staff Award" in 1994. He graduated from Millbury Memorial High
School, Clark University in Worcester and then received a Masters Degree in
Business Administration from Anna Maria College in Paxton in 1995. He
graduated from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and was a Registered
Nurse, he later earned his Nursing Home Administration License with the
State. He was a certified licensed electrician, and had a diploma in
accounting from the New England School of Accounting. He was a former
Lieutenant on Engine 4 with the Spencer Fire Dept., and Rescue Company.
Presently he was President of the Spencer Firefighters Relief Fund. He was a
member and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of the Rosary Church. He enjoyed
camping, fishing and admired Gen. George Patton.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Kenneth C. Mellen, Sr. and June
(Pelosi) Mellen.
The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 9 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL
HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the
Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will follow in Mary, Queen of
the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer. Calling hours are Sunday, Jan. 8 from 2 to
5p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Mellen
Educational Fund, c/o Spencer Savings Bank, 176 Main St., Spencer, 01562 or
