Robert M. Kearns, 86, of Anderson; died May 7, 2019 at Community Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born February 25, 1933 in Cynthiana, Kentucky, the son of Orville and Mossie (Lear) Kearns.
He achieved a BA degree from Anderson College and two master degrees from Ball State University. He was a teacher, coach and guidance counselor for more than 30 years for Anderson Community Schools. In 2004, he ran the Boston Marathon, finishing 28th. He was a member of the Road Runners, started Women's Softball program at Anderson University, Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame as girls basketball coach; hiked the Appalachian Trail and loved to travel and do church missions.
Robert is survived by his wife, Elsie (Olson)Kearns of Anderson whom he married August 30, 1952 in Anderson; three children, Bob (Pam) Kearns of Glenmoore, PA; Jamie (Rich) Stone of Indianapolis and Kathi (Steve) Carroll of Noblesville; sister, Bonnie (Bob) Brooks of Eaton, Ohio; brother, Larry (Jackie) Kearns of Oxford, Ohio; special friends, Tommy (Lori) Goodson and Ron (Debbie) Harmening; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Rev. Tom Malbone officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. before the service.
Memorial contributions may be given to Village Project Africa.
A private burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery.
