Troy Alvin Barber, 68, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Keith Norris officiating. Mr. Barber will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 9, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Michael Walker, Wesley Barber, Troy Tapp, Bruce Giddens, Glynn Joiner and Ben Bass will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Stone, the staff of the Tifton VA Clinic, the staff of the Anita Stewart Oncology Clinic and the staff of Hospice of Tift Area.
Born February 26, 1951 in Moultrie, Mr. Barber was the son of the late Vernon Chester Barber and Mary Catherine Thomas Barber. He received his Associate degree from ABAC and was self-employed as a timber buyer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and enjoyed volunteering at the Disabled American Veterans office and he loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Barber is survived by his wife, Diane Giddens Barber of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jenifer and Stan Mercer of Tifton and Jacey and David Coffey of Bonaire; four grandchildren, Madison Newell, Ryan Mercer and Tyler Mercer, all of Tifton and Easton Coffey of Bonaire; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Vernon Barber and Coy and Ann Barber, all of Tifton; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and Ray Walker of Tifton and Cathy Lott of Omega.
