Obituary

Thomas W. Crowley, 60, of Andover, died Wednesday, May 1 of sudden cardiac arrest. He was the beloved husband of Amy (Chesnut) Crowley and father of Alexandra, John, and Steven.

Born in Somerville, Tom was raised in Arlington and was the third of nine children of Walter and Aileen Crowley. He was a natural athlete, running track at Arlington High School and playing rugby at Tufts University. He loved to learn, especially about how things worked, and brought that curiosity and keen intellect to a 23 year career with I&C Engineering Co., in Newburyport.

Above all else, Tom loved his family. He and Amy built a home filled with laughter and adventure. He delighted in his children's accomplishments and in the people they had become. Tom imparted to them and to everyone he met a joy in living and an eagerness to learn. He was renowned in Andover for his Halloween displays, complete with flamethrower pumpkins and mechanized zombies. He brought a sense of fun to every encounter.

In addition to his wife and children, Tom is survived by his siblings, J. Walter Crowley III of Silverdale, WA, Eleanor Hickey of Hingham, William Crowley of Mt. Lebanon, PA, Rosemary Hallahan of Holden, Elizabeth Crowley of Belmont and Joseph Crowley of Belmont, and many beloved in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother Edmond Crowley and his sister Aileen Yates of Andover.

Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 9 at Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main St., Andover. Interment will be private.
