Francis H. Sweeney of Treasure Island, Florida, died on Monday, April 29, 2019. Born and raised in Medford, he was the son of the late Romeo and Dorothy (Howland) Nazzaro. Francis proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. After returning to Medford he married Marie Irma (Pezzole) – his wife of 65 years – and worked with his father in the gas fitting business before becoming the Finance Manager at Toyota of Boston. After he retired, Francis took a job at J&J Plumbing Supply. He and Marie have lived in Florida for the past 15 years. Francis was a Jack-of-all-trades with an incredible wit. He enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod with his family and vacationing in St. Maarten with dear friends Bill and Louise Gaunt. Francis was a lifelong member in good standing at the Irish American Club in Malden and spent many an afternoon with his caring friends at the R Bar in Treasure Island.
Francis was the devoted father of Michael R. Sweeney of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dorothy Rotondo and her husband David of North Providence, Rhode Island, Mark F. Sweeney and his wife Laura of Boca Raton, Florida, and Marianne Vinton and her husband Glenn of Hingham, Massachusetts. He was the loving grandfather of Carrie, Erin and Michael Sweeney, Julianne and the late Olivia Noel Rotondo, Sierra, Christina and Lyla Sweeney, and Glenn and David Vinton. Francis was the dear brother of Edward Sweeney and his late wife Janet, Ernest Nazzaro and the late Robert Sweeney. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Tuesday, May 7 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 9 through 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
