CONNOLLY, Shelley A. (Sweeney), of Winthrop, passed away on May 1, 2019. She was 70 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. “Tucker” Connolly. Born in Winthrop, she was the daughter of the late John V. “Jack” and Veronica A. (Murphy) Sweeney. Devoted mother of Tucker M. “Max” Connolly and Corey E. Connolly both of Winthrop. Dear sister of Jill McIlroy and her dear friend Philip Moody of Winthrop and the late Michael Sweeney. Also survived by her beloved dogs, Hoss and Baby. Funeral from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. WINTHROP, on Tues, May 7, at 9am. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church in Winthrop at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will take place in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday from 4-8pm. Shelley was one of the original 11 founders of the Survivors by the Sea Organization, which helps comfort cancer patients and their families with support, friendship, empathy and love throughout their treatments and beyond. Prior to her retirement, Shelley was a middle school teacher in the Winthrop Public School System where she taught for 37 years. She later enjoyed working part time at the Whidden Hospital Psychology Unit in Everett. She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School and received her Bachelors Degree from Mount St. Mary’s College and her Master's in Education from Cambridge College.
