Obituary

John W. Cook, 80, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held 2PM, Friday, May 3, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Mahan and the Rev. Blane Jacobs officiating. Dr. Hank Cook will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 Thursday evening at First Baptist Church.

Mr. Cook was born August 17, 1938, in Columbia, Mississippi, to the late John O. & Pearl McDaniel Cook. He was a 1956 graduate of Andalusia High School in Andalusia, Alabama. He attended Auburn University. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1959 and made his home here. He owned and operated John O. Cook, Inc. and worked with his father and later his sons in the timber and land clearing business. He loved to fish and hunt quail. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He was happiest when he was on his bulldozer working the land. Mr. Cook was an active member of First Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday school director and teacher, and member of the Baracca Sunday school class. He greatly enjoyed serving in church work and was a Gideon.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kathleen Cook of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: Clay & Christine Cook, Drs. Hank & Leah Cook, Todd & Christie Cook, John & Laura Clements, Dawn Clements, and Kristy & Taylor Henderson; grandchildren: Drew Cook, Jackson Cook, Madison Cook, Anna Cook, Samuel Cook, Jacob Cook, Carter Cook, Nate Henderson, Brie Henderson, Jake Clements, Ryan Clements, and Sophie Henderson; and two brothers: Kenneth & Connie Cook of Athens and Mike & Marilyn Butler of Sylvester.
