Lorraine "Rain" Deloras Decker Barriault
North Baldwin- Lorraine D. Barriault passed away on April 27, 2019 at Springbrook Center, Westbrook Maine. She was born at the Old Butterfield Place in North Baldwin on December 10,1928. The daughter of the late Jesse and Abbie Parker Decker.
Lorraine graduated from Potter Academy High School in 1947. She was the valedictorian of her class of 14 students. She met her future husband, Yves Emile Barriault, at Stubb Stacey’s store in Mud City, Sebago. After a whirl wind courtship, Yves delivered the ultimate proposal. He told Rain “I’m getting married June 31st, if you want to marry me, be there!” They were married June 31st 1949. Lorraine was a stay at home mom, doing odd jobs, picking apples, working at Camp Winaco and more until her employment at Fairchilds Semi-Conductor, South Portland Maine. She escalated quickly to the position of Trainer. Her job required her to travel Fairchild plants to assist in implementing training programs. Her travels included Washington state and Singapore. She met and maintained many friends including Susan Cheah of Singapore. Lorraine was active in the Potter Academy Alumni Association, Brown Memorial Library, Baldwin Historical Society and the Baldwin Ladies Extension Club. She had many interests; a talented artist, jewelry crafting, growing houseplants including orchids, baking and canning, lots and lots of rocks, genealogy, camping and especially staying at the family camp in Carleton, Quebec Canada. Lorraine also had many pets and leaves behind her cat Sam.
Lorraine is predeceased by her husband Yves of 45 years, her daughter Shelley and son Edgar “Shawn” Barriault.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Roney and husband Karl of Cornish. Her daughter Sheila Therriault and late husband John of Baldwin. Her daughter in law Gerri Barriault of Portland. She is survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grand child. Grandchildren Kelly and Farron and sons Luke an Drew. Michelle and Nathan Bliss and son Ryan. Kimberly and John Hatfield and children Emilee, Aleksa and Jake. Kristal and Lionel Wakefield and daughter Brianna. Lori and Scott Mouser and son Michael. Heather Fortin and daughters Kyliegh and Rayah-Joy. Joshua and Molly Therriault and daughter Faelan. Theodore Barriault and daughter Olivia. Nathan and Morgan Therriault and sons Titus and Decker. Daniel Barriault. Desiree Barriault and fiance Dustin and daughter Dakota. Michelle and James Turgeon and children Ryleigh, Wyatt, Anthony and Jaden. And one great great grandson Waylon, son of Michael Day. There are several nieces and nephews and many friends.
A Celebration of Lorraine’s life will be at Brown Memorial Library, 2 Norton Place, East Baldwin, on May 19th at 2:00pm.
