Joseph S. Lignar, age 92, passed away on Apr 25, 2019 at Renaissance Manor in Holyoke. He was born in Chicopee on Nov 25, 1926 to the late Frank and Catherine (Trela) Lignar. Joe was a WWII Army veteran who served in the South Pacific. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield. Joe worked as a forger for Moore Drop Forge, Spalding, and Smith & Wesson. Joe is pre-deceased by his wife Adeline (Yamin) Lignar, his brother John Lignar, and his brothers-in-law Daniel Bannish and Richard Niemiec, Sr. He leaves three sisters, Irene Bannish of Westfield, Helen Lignar of Chicopee and Frances Niemiec of Chicopee, many nieces and nephews, and step-grandchildren. Joseph received excellent care from Capuano Private Home Care, particularly from his caretaker Matt. The Veteran’s Association and Renaissance Manor also made Joseph’s last days very happy ones. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 8:30 am from the Grisé Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee with a Funeral Service to take place at 10 am at St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield. Burial will follow in Springfield Street Cemetery in Feeding Hills. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 4 to 6 pm at the funeral home.
