Obituary

Richard Wilson Wallace of Groton Long Point peacefully passed away early on January 5th just one day short of his 66th birthday. Richard was born on January 6, 1940 in New London to Earl W. Wallace and Clara Fish Wallace. He was a graduate of Fitch High School. He then poudly served in the US Marines for 8 years. "Semper Fi".

Dick, as he was known by his friends, was a life long resident of the Mystic area where he was a general contractor responsible for the construction and remodel of several area homes in Mystic and Groton Long Point. He hailed from a family of builders dating back six generations when his ancestors built clipper ships on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick Canada. He was on the board of directors for the original Mystic Community Center and was a volunteer in various youth sports programs over the years. Dick was a member of the Mystic River Mudheads and sailed on the 80ft Ondene from Newport to Bermuda.

Dick had many hobbies all of which he was passionate about including sailing, golfing, car restoration and most recently wood carving. He was a member of the Mystic Carvers Club and won many awards for his various bird carvings. Dick is credited for his carving of St. Joseph for the nativity scene dedicated in 2004 at St. Edmund’s Enders Island of Mystic.

He is survived by his wife Priscilla (Martin) Wallace of 45 years; a son Scott Wallace of Mystic; three daughters and sons-in-laws, Lisa and Craig Maberry of Melbourne Beach, Fla, Laurie and Kevin Quinn of Mystic and Amy and Richard Gudis of Old Saybrook and a sister Judy Nickerson of Mystic. Dick was a proud grandfather of five grandchildren. His smiles, laughter, dedication and loyalty will be deeply missed.

Dick’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 9-10am. A Service will immediately follow at 10am. Burial with military honors will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
