Obituary

CHICOPEE ~ Rita A. (Roy) Sarad, 85, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, April 22, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at Orchard Valley of Wilbraham surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on February 26, 1934, a beloved daughter of the late Wilfred and Aurore (Giroux) Roy. She graduated from the former Holy Rosary High School in Holyoke and lived in the Fairview section of Chicopee her entire life. She was last employed as an office administrator for the Holyoke Housing Authority. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and gardening around her beloved home. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Stanley “Bucky” Sarad who was Called Home on August 8, 1994. They were married on November 26, 1963 at Saint Anne Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 30 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving brothers, Norman Roy and his wife, Barbara, of Holyoke, Ernest Roy and his wife, Nancy, of Fairview and Donald Roy and his wife, Irene, of Chicopee; her two dear sisters-in-law, Gloria Roy of Warren, RI and Linda Roy of Chicopee; her nine cherished nephews and seven cherished nieces; and her many dear cousins, friends and extended members of the Sarad and Roy families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her two dear brothers, Roger E.J. Roy who was Called Home on August 11, 2018 and Rene A. Roy who was Called Home on December 15, 2017; her dear sister, Yvonne L. Benoit who was Called Home on October 4, 2009; and her cherished nephew, Steven P. Roy who was Called Home on February 1, 2015. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
