Obituary

GEIGER, Kathleen F. “Kay” 91, of Westwood, MA and formerly of Mantoloking and Summit, NJ, passed away peacefully beside her loving family on Wednesday, April 17, 2019.

Kay was born Kathleen Jean Freiert in Buffalo NY to the late John and Genevieve Freiert. She was the beloved niece of the late Kathryn and Glenn Tisdale of Maplewood NJ. Kay was devoted in marriage for over 66 years to the late Charles George Geiger with whom she raised 6 children: Glenn, Missy, Tim, Jay, David and Cindy. She was also a loving mother-figure to the children and family of her sister, Norma, who died at a young age.

Kay was born and raised in South Buffalo, NY where she attended high school at Mount Mercy Academy.
She was a graduate of Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia PA with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and major in Fine Arts. After college, Kay worked for Dumont Television in NYC before meeting and settling down with Charlie, the love of her life.  Kay was a faithful Catholic and active parishioner of St. Teresa’s Church in Summit NJ and Sacred Heart Church in Bay Head NJ.

Kay was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was a prolific and talented artist who left her family many cherished “KFG” paintings and other works of art for family and friends to enjoy.

Kay was a true and valued friend. From her early years in Buffalo, throughout her college days, and later, as a member of a variety of clubs and parishes, Kay fostered many friendships that would last her lifetime.

Kay was also an avid athlete. She and Charlie enjoyed competing in tennis, paddle tennis and golf. They relished their many years as members of Copper Springs (Meyersville, NJ), The Racquets Club of Short Hills (Short Hills NJ), and The Bay Head Yacht Club (Bay Head NJ).

In recent years, after Charlie’s passing, Kay relocated to the Boston area to be closer to children. She was lovingly cared for by the staffs of Bridges of Westwood, Caretenders, Visiting Angels, and recently under the care of Care Dimensions Hospice.

Kay leaves behind 6 children and their families: Glenn and Nancy Geiger of West Palm Beach, FL, Missy and Bob McCarthy of Wellesley MA, Tim and Susan Geiger of Duxbury MA, Jay and Marylou Geiger of Peabody MA, David and Colleen Geiger of Vienna VA, and Cindy Sweeney and Jim Hubbard of Marshfield MA and numerous grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces and nephews of the Hayes, McLaughlin and Brown families, as well as many great nieces and nephews and their children.

Please consider a donation gift in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice in Kay’s memory.

Care provided by George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home in Wellesley, MA and Paul Ippolito Memorial in Summit, NJ. Services will be held in Summit, NJ.
